Better Ventures Backs MyVyllage to Improve Access to Childcare

We’re excited to announce our investment in MyVyllage, a startup that is re-imagining childcare and early childhood development in the US. We led the company’s $1.2M pre-seed round, which included investments from Acumen America, Gary Investments, and several angels. At a time when quality childcare is in short supply and out of reach for so many Americans, MyVyllage is building a national network of in-home childcare providers from the ground up, with an emphasis on community, quality, and affordability. The company is tapping into the expertise of existing providers to recruit and train new providers, building out supply in the market while offering a pathway to gainful employment.

MyVyllage is led by CEO and founder Erica Mackey, a skilled entrepreneur who co-founded and led operations at Off-Grid-Electric (OGE), a pioneer in off-grid solar that has raised over $170M.  Erica was the operational driving force behind OGE’s rapid on-the-ground expansion in Sub-Saharan Africa and is applying those skills in this new market. She’s joined by co-founder and CFO, Beth Szymanski, who brings entrepreneurial, organizational building, and finance experience to the team from three prior startups and a six-year stint at Deutsche Bank. Erica and Beth met during business school at Oxford, where both were prestigious Skoll Fellows. We are thrilled to be backing such an extraordinarily talented team and look forward to partnering with them to help solve the big childcare challenges faced by so many parents.
